Recovery Jam Raises $6,000 for Local Recovery Center

The 3rd annual Recovery Jam shared that this year’s event raised $6,000 for the Magdalene House of Charleston.

The Magdalene House of Charleston is a women-only treatment facility in Summerville. Since 2007, The Magdalene House has helped women get free from substance abuse and boasts a 75% success rate for those that stay past 90 days. Many of their residents come from lives of destitution, abuse, incarceration, and human trafficking and are now enjoying the first freedom they have known for years.

“Admission to the house is $1,000 for the first 60-days, so with this donation we’ll be able to support six women who want a new way of life without the substance abuse dependency,” said Liz Milligan, Executive Director of The Magdalene House. “We see a high entry rate during this time of year because the holidays can be hard for many.”

Although a wide variety of resources are available for community members, access to helpful programs such as in-patient treatment and rehabilitation can be cost prohibitive.

“We want to thank our sponsors; Crews Subaru, Elkin Engineering & Diagnostics, Beacon Community Bank, Capitol Coffee, Gigpro, Celadon, Holy City Sinner, SB Advertising, and High Tide Home Repair for being pulled to our cause,” said Ray Spellerberg, founder and chairman of the Recovery Jam. “Having the support of local businesses allows us to provide the most we can for people that truly want the help.”

Recovery Jam’s philanthropic arm is to provide contributions to local recovery programs in the Charleston area. An application process will take place in the spring to determine the 2023 nonprofit partner. Next year’s event will be held on October 7, 2023.
