BCLS and American Red Cross Collaborate to Bring Free Emergency Preparedness Training To Students
Berkeley County Library System (BCLS) and American Red Cross, Palmetto Region SC, are offering The Pillowcase Project, a FREE Emergency Preparedness Training on Friday, February 17, 2023, with the following schedule:

“Being prepared in an emergency is important for everyone! Learn how with this amazing program presented by the Red Cross,” said Jessica Nuckolls, Young Adult Librarian.
The Pillowcase Project (3rd – 5th Grade, ages 8-11) is a 40-60 minute classroom-based presentation that teaches students to:
- Identify the best ways to stay safe during emergencies that can occur in their communities.
- Identify the best ways to prevent and stay safe during a home fire.
- Use coping skills to help manage stress during emergencies and in everyday situations.
- Gain confidence in their abilities to be prepared for emergencies through hands-on activities.
- Use their knowledge to act as advocates for emergency preparedness in their homes and communities.
- Discuss the role science plays in emergency preparedness.
