Rep. Nancy Mace (SC-01) today highlighted what her office called two major victories for the Lowcountry after H.R. 1 passed the U.S. House of Representatives. Rep. Mace’s office says she successfully got an offshore drilling ban solidified in the base text of H.R. 1, the Lower Energy Costs Act, as well as an amendment being included in final passage. H.R. 1 seeks to lower energy costs for families and businesses across the country, while also adding provisions to protect the environment.

“An offshore drilling ban being included in the base text of the Lower Energy Costs Act is a big win for the Lowcountry,” said Rep. Mace. “This will positively impact our coastal communities, who rely on major industries such as tourism and fishing to drive our local economy. It also ensures we are doing our part to protect our beautiful coastline and the environment. This will help safeguard the natural resources of the area, including the pristine beaches and unique wildlife habitats that make the Lowcountry one of the best places in the country to live.”

In addition to the ban in the base text, Rep. Mace had an amendment included in the final passage of H.R. 1 that would require the Secretary of Energy to report annually on ongoing assessments of alternative and renewable energy sources.

“As the world becomes more unstable, we need to get back to unleashing clean American energy,” said Rep. Mace. “The United States can supply our own alternative and renewable energy, and can do it cleaner than the rest of the world. We need to strengthen our supply chains and advance American energy security, and this amendment ensures we will have the tools for renewable energy production right here at home.”
