Dorchester Paws in Need of Community Assistance After Seizing 30 Dogs Living in “Deplorable Conditions”

Dorchester Paws this week said over 30 dogs were found living in deplorable conditions in a Dorchester County home and were seized by shelter staff.

Upon arrival, dogs were found living in their own filth, locked in crates (some of which were too small), and tied to trees with heavy chains. The majority of the dogs need serious medical attention, including some that were found to have end stage heartworm disease.

The shelter said they will do everything possible to help these animals, but need assistance from the community. Here are the different ways you can help:

FOSTER

The shelter does NOT have space for the 30 dogs as they only had 15 open kennels. Emergency fosters are needed, so if you can foster, you can visit Dorchester Paws until 5 pm today. Fosters are needed for as long as they can commit.

ADOPT

Any dogs that have been at the shelter for over 15 days will have their adoptions fees waived.

FOUND A STRAY

The shelter’s intake department is currently closed and there is a moratorium in place as they do not have any space to put lost pets. So, if you find a stray, Dorchester Paws requests you scan the lost pet for a microchip and post on neighborhood pages.
