Going Places To Give 224 Custom Bikes, Locks, Helmets, Bike Pumps
Local nonprofit Going Places will be the surprising 224 children that attend Charleston Progressive Academy with a new, custom bike, lock, helmet, and bike pump on May 1st. The organization says they need volunteers to help build some of the bikes, unload all of them, perform quality checks, put air in the tires, load the bikes onto a semi truck, and to help at the bike reveals.
At the bike builds:
- 30 volunteers per 2-hour time slot (may sign up for more than 1 time slot)
- Bring a folding table to build on (Going Places has some if you don’t) and an air compressor if you have one
- oing Places will have food provided by Raising Canes
At the bike reveals:
- 60 volunteers are needed to help unload all bikes, locks, helmets, and bike pumps off of the semi trucks and set up the bikes under the big tarps for the surprise bike reveals
- Volunteers will help the children ride their bikes
- Going Places will have food provided by Daddy’s Food Truck for staff and volunteers
- DJ Natty Heavy will provide music
- Going Places and volunteers will remain at the school until the end of the day as parents come and check-out their child’s bike
DETAILS FOR BIKE BUILD:
WHEN: April 29th, 10 am – 5 pm
WHERE: Bintelli Warehouse (not their store), 6900 Weber Blvd., Ladson
DETAILS FOR BIKE REVEAL:
WHEN: May 1st
TIME: Volunteers arrive at 8:30 am, reveal at 10:15 am, distribution to parents at 10:45 am – 6 pm
WHERE: Charleston Progressive Academy, 382 Meeting Street, Charleston
ALL volunteers MUST go into the school’s front office the morning of the bike reveal to have their driver’s license scanned to receive a volunteer pass so to expedite this process.

Parking: The school is directly across from the Visitor Center Parking Garage and The Brick, so Going Places suggests parking there

They do that by surprising every child in the low-income, high-poverty elementary schools with a brand new, high quality, custom bike, lock, helmet, and bike pump.
