Lime Launches Lime Hero Partnership to Raise Money for Charleston Moves
Press Release
Lime launched its Lime Hero program in Charleston via a new partnership with Charleston Moves. This special program will support Charleston Moves and its vision for a more connected Charleston by allowing shared e-bike riders to round up the cost of their rides, with Lime donating the difference to the organization. Lime will use social media and in-app and email messaging to let its riders know about the opportunity to support Charleston Moves during the program launch and throughout its continued presence in the city.
“Lime and Charleston Moves share the same vision of a more connected Charleston that is easy and safe to navigate without a car and we’re proud to provide our riders a chance to support this organization’s inspiring work. We at Lime are deeply committed to giving back to the communities we serve and our Lime Hero program allows everyone who uses Lime to join in that effort and make a difference in their city. We look forward to deepening our roots in Charleston and working with Charleston Moves to build a city that is safe, livable, walkable, bikeable, and sustainable,” said Trisha Botty, Senior Manager of Government Relations at Lime.
“Safe and equitable transportation choice is key to supporting Charleston’s people and businesses. We are grateful for Lime’s support of our advocacy towards a thriving community in which people can travel how they choose and how they can afford to work, play and shop,” said Katie Zimmerman, Executive Director of Charleston Moves.
Charleston Moves is a nonprofit organization that encourages mobility by bicycle, foot and public transit for the improved health and well-being of Charleston County. The options to ride a bike, walk or use public transit mean: equitable opportunities and better access to affordable food, health care and housing, as well as job security, for citizens; an improved local economy; opportunities for civic engagement; cleaner air and water; climate change mitigation; improved public health; reduced traffic congestion.
Since its launch, the Lime Hero program has raised nearly $250,000 USD for over 20 nonprofit and charitable organizations, helping support numerous local causes from wildlife conservation and air pollution to homelessness and childhood hunger.
In just over a year since Lime launched in Charleston, over 35,000 unique riders have taken over 90,000 trips on a shared Lime e-bike. Lime riders have traveled over 160,000 miles, keeping an estimated 21,000 car trips off the road and saving 1,500 gallons of gas as well as over 13 metric tons of carbon emissions.
Building a Sustainable Business
Lime recently became the first micromobility company to post a full profitable year. Lime’s success is due to its focus on being the best partner to cities, working collaboratively to build successful micromobility programs tailored to fit each city’s unique needs. This financial success allows Lime to invest in its services to cities and build programs that will last; that are stable and reliable for cities and riders. For Charleston, that means continued investments in Lime Access discounts for riders in need and even deeper community partnerships to ensure we give back to the communities we serve, starting with this Lime Hero launch with Charleston Moves.
Lime achieved its best year ever, with a record $466 million in gross bookings in 2022, a 33% increase from 2021, and hit Adjusted EBITDA of $15 million. Lime was also profitable on an unadjusted EBITDA basis. Lime provides shared e-bikes and e-scooters in more than 250 cities in nearly 30 countries as it continues its mission to decarbonize transportation globally and serve as an alternative for the car.
