Charleston Area Transportation Study (CHATS) Certification Process Invites Public Input
Press Release
The Berkeley-Charleston-Dorchester Council of Governments will host a public meeting to provide an opportunity for community input on CHATS planning products and processes from 12 pm to 1 pm on Thursday, June 22nd, 2023 in its Board Room at 5790 Casper Padgett Way. The meeting will be held as part of the organization’s Certification Review being conducted by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and Federal Transit Administration (FTA) Region 4.
During the meeting, attendees will have an opportunity to interact directly with BCDCOG staff members and receive an overview of the overall transportation planning process, as well as the defined roles and responsibilities of both the organization and the public.
As the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for the Charleston region’s urbanized area, all CHATS planning products are reviewed and approved by FHWA and FTA on a routine basis. The periodic certification review, held at least every four years, allows these agencies to comprehensively assess compliance with the Federal requirements of 23 USC 134(k)(5) and 49 USC 5303(k)(5), and to provide advice and technical assistance to the MPO and its planning partners for enhancing the multimodal planning process and improving the quality of transportation investment decisions.
Those unable to attend in person are invited to participate virtually. Please contact Jennifer Dantzler at jenniferd@bcdcog.com or 843-529-0420 to register and receive virtual meeting instructions.
