Website: Charleston is the No. 18 Most Expensive Metro Area to Rent
Lawn Love, a lawn care company, released a report on 2023’s Most Expensive Metro Areas for Renters and they ranked Charleston as being the 18th most expensive in the country.
To come up with our ranking, the website compared 172 of the biggest U.S. metros based on three categories. They looked at average rent prices, year-over-year rent changes, and the share of renters spending over 30% of their income on rent and utilities, among nine total metrics.
Charleston Metro’s Rank in Some Key Metrics (1st = Most Expensive):
- Average 1-Bedroom Rent Price (May 2023): 19th
- Share of Cost-Burdened Renters: 49th
- Foreclosure Rate (April 2023): 7th
