Grand Bohemian Gallery to Host “Ocean Untamed” Exhibition by Artist Pam White
Grand Bohemian Gallery will present an exhibition of new works by Bluffton-based visual artist Pam White in August. The “Ocean Untamed” exhibition will be on display from August 4th to to August 27th
White is well versed in classic materials and mediums including oil, acrylic, and inks. Five years ago, she decided to dedicate her time primarily to encaustic wax. Art is a form of communication and Pam communicates her vision, and her interpretation of nature around her with a mixture of beeswax, resin and pigment. It is methodically and strategically moved on the canvas, using a torch and carving tools. Pam deliberately chooses different ratios of pigment in her wax and resin to bring attention to the layers below. The intentional carving through and gently refusing the layers with a torch to show the collision of colors invigorates her.
Her August 2023 show entitled “Ocean Untamed” exemplifies her understanding and appreciation of our ocean and waterways. Pam’s visual “description” through the use of wax exhibits not only the power and magnitude but the inner dissection of a ripple of water. This exhibition runs from Friday, August 4th (in tandem with the Charleston Gallery Association’s First Friday Art Walk) through Sunday, August 17th.
Pam White will be at the Grand Bohemian Gallery Charleston on Saturday, August 5th for the opening reception. The artist will be Live Painting (encaustic with blow torch) on the gallery patio from 2 pm to 4 pm then a follow-up formal Artist Reception will take place in the gallery from 6 pm to 8 pm.
The Grand Bohemian Hotel – Grand Bohemian Gallery is located at 55 Wentworth Street.
