Isle of Palms Recreation Department to Host a First Ever Baton Twirling Series
The City of Isle of Palms Recreation Department will team up with Carson King, to host the first ever Baton Twirling Series on Isle of Palms for ages 5-13 years.
King started twirling when she was six years old and began twirling competitively at the age of nine. She competed in state and national competitions, solo and with a team, up to her first year in college. In 2015, King started twirling for Clemson University. She twirled on the majorette line for three years and was the “Feature Twirler” for her fourth and final season. During her time at Clemson, King performed at all the home football games, bowl games, and three National Championships.
In 2019, King competed for Miss Clemson University, winning an overall talent award, and placing as first runner-up. That same year, she was crowned Miss Greater Easley and competed for the title of Miss South Carolina. During the competition, she performed baton twirling on the Miss South Carolina stage.
King started teaching at a dance and baton studio in Anderson, SC. She has taught baton and dance to students of all ages and levels in group classes and private lessons. She has also choreographed for high school majorette lines and as a guest instructor for camps and clinics.
In 2022, King started her own twirling group, Palmetto Twirlers. They perform at various community events and parades throughout the Charleston area.
“Isle of Palms is rich in heritage and absolutely the perfect stage for a sport that has been a part of South Carolina history for years,” King said. “Students will learn the basic skills of baton twirling and gradually build towards advanced performances.”
