SCSU Alum to host HBCU Night at The Whale CHS

“Wu Wednesday” returns to The Whale CHS on Wednesday, August 23rd with its first-ever “HBCU Night” to celebrate Historically Black Colleges & Universities.

Over the last year, The Whale has served as a monthly meeting location for beer enthusiasts and creatives to network over food, beers, and a live DJ set. However, David White, Jr., “Wu Wednesday” host and the founder of The Dropping Pin, says he hopes to transform the North Meeting Street craft beer collective into the “yard.”

“The HBCU student experience started for myself and many others on the ‘yard,’” White said. “This is where we hung out, caught up between classes, broke intellectual bread and even partied. Some of everything happened on the yard…and we’re reliving it all over again next week.”

From 7 pm until 10 pm, HBCU alumni are invited to join the South Carolina State University graduate for what he’s now calling “HBCWu.” This special edition of “Wu Wednesday” will also pay homage to the historical black fraternities/sororities of the Divine 9 and feature co-host Tawana Tee (of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.) and DJ SCrib (of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.)

Donations will be accepted in support of The Dropping Pin’s scholarship for Alpha Kappa Psi, Professional Business Fraternity members attending South Carolina State University.

“The night will be nostalgic for many and a new cultural experience for others,” White said. “But it will definitely be a moment in ‘Wu Wednesday’ history like never before.”

“HBCWu Night” at The Whale CHS is open to the public and free of charge. Attendees must be 21+ with valid ID. For more information, visit @TheDroppingPin on Instagram or email thedroppingpin@gmail.com.

The Whale CHS is located on 1640 Meeting Street Road in Charleston.
