Press Release

Charleston County Parks is thrilled to invite runners to Johns Island County Park for the annual Lowcountry Trail Half Marathon and 5K race on Saturday, October 7th.

Runners will take in spectacular foliage, moss-draped oaks and native wildlife as they make their way through Johns Island’s breathtaking off-road trails. Races are offered for two distances: a half marathon and 5K. The half marathon is for runners only and begins at 8 am. The 5K is open for runners or walkers and will begin at 8:30 am.

Registration is now available at CharlestonCountyParks.com and ends on Wednesday, October 4th. On-site registration will not be available. Race fees are $38 for the 5K and $55 for the half marathon.

An awards ceremony will take place after the race.

Participants ages 10-15 can register for the race but must be accompanied by an adult chaperone. The half marathon is a run-only event. Two water stations will be available on the course, but pre-filled personal water bottles are highly recommended. The course offers occasional areas of uneven terrain and varies from hard-packed trails with roots to grass. Strollers are not recommended.

“The heart of every trail runner pumps a little faster with a route full of adventure – the experience of traveling through unique vistas, varying terrain, and encountering wildlife in a natural habitat,” said Charleston County Parks’ Fitness and Wellness Manager Allison Foster. “Lowcountry Trail Run provides all that and more. Year after year it draws a community that are all adventure seekers at heart.”

Johns Island County Park is located at 2662 Mullet Hall Road, just off River Road. The park sits on 738 acres and offers miles of trails for runners, walkers and equestrians. During normal park hours, an archery range, dog park and disc golf course are also available.
