Peter Shahid Officially Files to Run for Mayor of Charleston
Charleston City Councilmember Peter Shahid today officially filed his candidacy for Mayor of Charleston.
He released the following statement:
“I chose to file today to honor my father, Albert, on what would have been his 109th birthday. My father infused in me the importance of faith, family, and community service. I have tried to stay true to those values my entire life. I have served my community in various roles, and now serving as mayor would be the ultimate compliment to my father, the principles he instilled in me, and his love for our city.
I am running for mayor to bring authentic leadership back to City Hall and livability back to Charleston. My theme for this election is ‘Rethink Charleston.’ It’s time for us to put Charlestonians first. I’m the only candidate who has stood up and stopped developers from threatening our quality of life and our neighborhoods. As a City Councilmember for the past seven years, I created the Stormwater Department and served as the Chairperson of the West Ashley Revitalization Commission and the Public Safety Committee.
I have spent my entire life in Charleston. I love this city, and I am committed to making sure we tackle those critical issues that impact our daily lives and restore Charleston to the jewel it is and should be.”
