UK Generations Approach Gambling In Various Ways

Published

on

With online gambling at large, the demographic to access these services has diversified a lot. People of all ages (not under 18) participate in gambling in the UK. Interestingly, not all age groups play the same games. Let’s dive into how different age groups interact with online gambling in the UK.

Gen Z (Born Between 1997 and 2012)

Obviously, only some people in this age group are ready to gamble. But a big chunk of this population will turn 18 soon, and they’ll carry the torch of gambling forward.

Interestingly, this generation seems to be less interested in traditional casino games or sports betting options. Instead, they’re more focused on esports competitions and esports betting. In fact, this is the generation responsible for the rise of esports betting in the UK.

Another interesting characteristic of this group is that they’re more interested in trying unique payment methods like cryptocurrencies.

The Millennial Generation (Born Between 1981 and 1996)

Data shows that this group of people in the UK is more interested in mobile gambling. It makes sense because the entire group is eligible to gamble, and they’re working individuals. This limits the time they can spend sitting in front of computer screens.

Millennials also tend to focus more on the social aspect of gambling. Money Making is never a goal for them. Betting on tournaments or multiplayer events, or hanging out on a casino floor are common activities for this age group. Data also shows that millennials are easy to persuade with rewards like VIP programs and loyalty points.

Gen X (Born Between 1965 and 1980)

Statistically, Gen Z is the 3rd richest demographic. They’re also the bridge between supposedly ancient gambling equipment and ultra-modern online gambling. This generation prefers playing live dealer games above anything else due to proper exposure to land-based gambling.

They’re also more welcoming to changes in the industry. They’re often the first to test a new technology simply because they’ve seen some of the most radical changes during their stay on Earth. This profound understanding of the gambling world also makes them very cautious about security features.

Baby Boomers (Born Between 1946 and 1964)

The wealthiest generation. They’re more inclined to land-based gambling simply because they’re more familiar with it. Games like poker and blackjack are typically their go-to. Due to the slow progression of technology in their youth, this generation is usually not very welcoming to changes.

The Silent Generation (Born Between 1928 and 1945)

You can’t blame this generation if they don’t want anything to do with online gambling. Still, the number of people from this generation currently gambling is not negligible. They usually prefer simple-to-understand games, like slots. They play mainly to spend their free time.
