International Longshoremen’s Association Local 1422 Endorses Middleton for Mayor of Charleston

The International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) Local 1422 today endorsed Charleston Mayoral Candidate Clay Middleton. The membership voted unanimously to support Middleton’s bid to become the next Mayor of Charleston.

“Mr. Middleton is home grown,” Charles Brave, Jr., President of ILA Local 1422, said. “He is why we fight so hard to have access to economic opportunities, social justice, and support people for elected office that will not turn their backs on us. His body of work in public service from working for Congressman Jim Clyburn, numerous local non-profit organizations and causes he has actively been involved with, to his blended experience at every level of government uniquely makes him the best person to be Charleston’s next Mayor. Equity, addressing systemic livability and transportation issues, as well as his commitment to work with business leaders, unions, and other stakeholders positions him to be the most qualified candidate to be the next Mayor of Charleston. We look forward to working collaboratively with him and his administration to address issues and concerns affecting the city of Charleston and our entire region.”

Following the announcement, Middleton said, “For generations Local 1422 has played a critical role in providing living wage jobs that support families and communities across our region. I am humbled and grateful to have the trust, faith, and confidence of the men and women that represent organized labor and stand up for what is right, even when unpopular. Their endorsement and active support is another example of the desire people have for a shared vision, bold servant leadership, and a true partner in City Hall. I do not take this lightly and will not take such support for granted.”
