Are you having a party that requires Jello shots?

These can be quite a hassle to make and serve, not to mention the possibility of smashing a glass full of your favorite booze on your countertop. What if there is a better way?

Why not replace the shot glass and make your Jello shots in a Lime wedge? They are neat and convenient; you can eat them after or during the party. It’s all upside, no downside to going green.

Prepare the Limes

Start making your fun shots by washing the limes thoroughly under running water. Dry them with a clean cloth. To prevent the limes from rolling around, carefully slice off a small part from the bottom, creating a flat base.

Then, slice off the top part to create a lid. Make sure not to cut through the lime entirely. You want to create a small opening at the top.

Hollow Out the Limes

Using a spoon or a small scoop, gently scoop out the flesh of the limes. Be cautious not to damage the lime peel.

You want it to be a sturdy container for your citrus wedge shots. The lime flesh you scoop out can be saved for other recipes or used to make a refreshing limeade.

Prepare the Jello Mix

Follow the instructions on the Jello mix package. Typically, you’ll need to dissolve the Jello powder in boiling water. Stir until the powder is completely dissolved.

Then, add cold water and stir again. Here’s where the fun part comes in: replace some cold water with your chosen alcohol.

The amount of alcohol can vary based on your preference. But a common ratio is about half a cup of alcohol for every two cups of liquid (boiling water + cold water + alcohol).

Fill the Lime Wedges

Carefully pour the Jello-alcohol mixture into the hollowed-out lime wedges. You can do this by holding the lime wedges over the mixing bowl or placing them in a muffin tin to keep them steady.

Fill the lime wedges almost to the top. This will leave a little space for the Jello to set and the lid to be placed back on.

Refrigerate and Set

Place the filled lime wedges in the refrigerator to allow the Jello to set. This usually takes a few hours, but leaving them in the fridge overnight is best for optimal results. The cold temperature of the fridge will help the Jello firm up, and the flavors meld together.

Serve and Enjoy

Once the Jello has set, remove the lime wedges from the refrigerator. Place the lids on top of each lime wedge to protect the Jello.

To serve, you can slice the lime wedges into smaller pieces or serve them whole. The lime peel acts as a convenient holder and adds a burst of tangy flavor to each shot. For variety, you can also read this pina colada recipe here.
