Dorchester County Announces Government Closures Due to Storm Impacts

The following is a press release from Dorchester County Government

A Tropical Storm Warning is now in effect for Dorchester County until further notice. The latest forecast from the National Weather Service (NWS) indicates that Dorchester County may begin to experience possible deteriorating weather as early as Wednesday morning (8/30/23) with worsening conditions lasting until early Thursday (8/31/23) morning.

Please do not walk or drive through flood waters as it can be extremely dangerous and life threatening. Follow the saying, “Turn around, don’t drown.”

As a reminder, please call the Dorchester County Call Center at (843) 832-0393 for accurate and up-to-date information regarding the current situation related to Tropical Storm Idalia. To report road closures or downed trees, please contact the Call Center.

Dorchester County Administrative Offices and Dorchester County Courts

All Dorchester County Administrative Offices and Dorchester County Courts will be closed on Wednesday, August 30, and Thursday, August 31.


Dorchester County Convenience Sites

All Dorchester County Convenience Sites are regularly closed on Wednesdays.

As long as site conditions allow, Convenience Sites are planning to reopen on Thursday, August 31 following their regular schedules.

All storm yard debris can be dropped off at the following Convenience Sites:

Sandy Pines Center (374 Sandy Pines Lane)
Miles Road Center (130 Suburban Lane)

Dorchester County Parks

Ashley River Park will be closing at 5:00pm on Tuesday, August 29 so that staff can finish preparing the park for the incoming storm.

All Dorchester County Parks will be closed on Wednesday, August 30 and Thursday, August 31. All parks are planning to reopen on Friday, September 1 as long as they are safe to do so.

Dorchester County Public Libraries

All Dorchester County Public Libraries will be closed on Wednesday, August 30. Library staff will assess any damages and provide updates for opening the libraries after the storm has passed.

Dorchester School District Two and Dorchester School District Four

Dorchester School District Two and Dorchester School District Four are moving to eLearning day procedures on Wednesday, August 30 and Thursday, August 31.


Dorchester County Career and Technology Center

The Dorchester County Career and Technology Center will be moving to eLearning day procedures on Wednesday, August 30 and Thursday, August 31.


Dorchester County Animal Control

Dorchester County Animal Control is unable to transport stray animals as Dorchester Paw’s Pet Support Service Department (intake office) will be closed Wednesday, August 30, through Saturday, September 2.

For any animal emergencies, please contact the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office.


Dorchester County Senior Centers

The Faith Sellers Senior Center and the David Sojourner Senior Center will be closed on Wednesday, August 30, and Thursday, August 31.
