Press Release

South Carolina’s leading gender justice advocacy group the Women’s Rights and Empowerment Network (WREN) is undergoing a significant leadership transition as founding CEO Ann Warner prepares to depart on September 22nd. Current Chief Operating Officer Brandi Parrish Ellison (above) will step into the role of interim CEO while the search for a permanent replacement is underway.

Ann Warner has dedicated nearly eight years to WREN, during which the organization expanded its programs and emerged as a leading advocate for the rights of marginalized communities across South Carolina. WREN expresses heartfelt appreciation for her dedication and wishes her success in her future endeavors. Warner’s legacy will continue to inspire and guide us.

COO Brandi Parrish Ellison expressed her enthusiasm for her new role, stating, “I am honored to continue shepherding WREN through this season of change. We are committed to upholding the principles and values that form the foundation of our organization as we tackle the challenges ahead. I look forward to collaborating with our hardworking team to stay the course.”

Parrish Ellison has been with WREN since its inception in 2016 and has played a pivotal role in the organization’s continued success. She recently led the acquisition of a 4,700-square-foot commercial property that will become WREN’s new headquarters in Columbia this fall. Additionally, plans are in place to expand the team by at least three members by year’s end. Parrish Ellison’s deep understanding of WREN’s mission and its impact on all South Carolinians, and her commitment to creativity, growth, and innovation have been instrumental.

The Board of Directors has complete confidence in Brandi Parrish Ellison’s leadership and remains dedicated to the mission of fostering a more equitable society for all. Board Chair Beth Ruffin remarked, “Brandi’s extensive operational experience and deep understanding of our values make her the ideal choice to guide the organization through this transition.”
