Charleston County BVRE Reveals Winners of 2023 “I Voted!” Sticker Design Contest
Press Release
The Charleston County Board of Voter Registration and Elections (BVRE) is revealing the winners of the department’s first “I Voted!” Sticker Design Contest. The competition, which was open to students across Charleston County, took place over the summer and received well over 100 submissions from children in grades K-12.
During the submission period, students were encouraged to create “I Voted!” stickers that were visually appealing, creative, and related to the theme of voting and civic engagement. Dozens of designs were separated into three groups based on grade level: K-5, 6-8, and 9-12. After five finalists for each group were selected by the BVRE executive leadership team, the designs were uploaded to social media for a public voting period through the BVRE Facebook page.
Designs created by Nora G. (K-5), Madelyn G. (6-8), and Cameron H. (9-12) had the highest vote totals after voting closed on Sept. 15, 2023.
“Young people across Charleston County combined their creativity and patriotism to produce fantastic artwork this summer. I thank everyone who expressed themselves and participated to make our first ‘I Voted!’ Sticker Design Contest a rousing success,” stated BVRE Executive Director Isaac Cramer. “They and their designs will inspire future voters to be more aware of and involved in issues impacting Charleston County. They will help others see the beauty and diversity of our people and our values, and will encourage others to make a positive difference in our community.
Each winner’s design will come to life as physical “I Voted!” stickers, which will be distributed on a limited run during the early voting period for this fall’s municipal elections. Additionally, all winners will receive two tickets to a 2024 Charleston RiverDogs home game, two passes to Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum, and a $50 gift certificate to D’Allesandro’s Pizza in downtown Charleston.
For a chance to receive an “I Voted!” sticker designed by one of the contest winners, eligible Charleston County voters can cast their ballot during early voting for this fall’s municipal elections. Early voting will be held from 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. on weekdays from Oct. 23-Nov. 3. Locations include BVRE headquarters in North Charleston, Charleston County Public Library’s Main Library in downtown Charleston, and Seacoast Church locations in Mount Pleasant and West Ashley.
The Charleston County Board of Voter Registration and Elections is responsible for conducting all municipal, state, and federal elections that are held in Charleston County. BVRE also conducts outreach events with community members that encourage election education and participation.
