SC Works Trident and Volvo to Mark Manufacturing Month with Immersive Hiring Event
Press Release
To celebrate South Carolina Manufacturing Month, SC Works Trident and Volvo will host an immersive career fair, ‘The Volvo Experience,’ at Trident Technical College, on Friday, October 6th.
The event will take place in building 920 from 9 am to 4 pm. Space is limited and pre-registration is required to attend. Those interested can complete pre-registration and select a time slot here.
“We are excited to once again partner with Volvo to highlight the great manufacturing careers available to residents in our region,” said BCDCOG Workforce Development Director Sharon Goss. “ As companies like Volvo continue to drive demand for skilled operators in advanced manufacturing, SC Works Trident is here to ensure job-seekers have the skills and training necessary to take advantage of these new opportunities.”
Co-hosted by additional partners readySC and the South Carolina Department of Employment and Workforce, the upcoming event will invite prospective employees to learn about Volvo’s operations and culture first-hand as it seeks to add 1,300 employees to its current South Carolina workforce.
During the event, attendees will have a chance to speak directly with Volvo Car Ambassadors, practice manufacturing skills through interactive games, learn about the products manufactured at the Ridgeville plant and more.
In addition, job-seekers will be invited to complete online employment applications with the help of SCWorks Trident and readySC staff.
Volvo Head of Communications and Community Relations Katherine Bergmann said, “We’re hiring 1,300 Team Members to help us build the EX90. The Volvo Experience is an opportunity for applicants to meet our team and learn about Volvo, and the amazing things happening at our Ridgeville plant, through sight and sound. Applicants will also have an opportunity to apply on the spot, thanks to the support of SCWorks and readySC.”
Those in need of assistance with meeting pre-hire qualifications are encouraged to reach out to their local SC Works center by visiting www.scworkstrident.org.
This year’s event coincides with National Manufacturing Day, which takes place on the first Friday of October. Each year National Manufacturing Day shines a spotlight on the manufacturing industry, showcasing opportunities available to parents, students and the public.
South Carolina is a hotbed for manufacturing and was recently named the number one state for manufacturing by the national firm, Site Selection Group. The firm ranked South Carolina number one due to its strong workforce, low operating costs, and geographic positioning, noting that Charleston maintains an advantage with access to a major port and proximity to other modal options like rail.
