Press Release

As the holiday season draws near, the Charleston Parks Conservancy invites the community to its annual event, 2023 Light the Lake, on December 1st from 5 pm to 9 pm at Colonial Lake. The park’s pathways will be lined with more than 1,000 luminaries that surround the lake, and the event will include the lighting of the tree in the center of Colonial Lake by Mayor John Tecklenburg at 5:45 pm, live music by the Charleston Caroling Company, a food village with concessions for purchase, artist vignettes, a photo booth, and more! Plus, a holiday movie on the lawn at Moultrie Park starting at 7 pm. Light the Lake is free to attend; registration is encouraged.

This year, the nonprofit invites the community to honor and celebrate special people in their lives by dedicating a luminary for display. A contribution of $35 will dedicate a luminary, whether in celebration of those who continue to bring joy to someone’s life, such as children, friends, and neighbors, or in remembrance of a beloved, late family member. Luminary dedications will be recognized on the two-hour preview on the 40-foot movie screen from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. To dedicate a luminary and register for Light the Lake, visit charlestonparksconservancy.org/event/light-the-lake-2023.

“Our parks serve as vital community spaces, fostering connections and cultivating a shared sense of place for residents and visitors alike,” said Darlene Heater, Executive Director of Charleston Parks Conservancy. “Events like Light the Lake underscore the spirit of community support that sustains our parks, furthering our mission to enhance the quality of life for all Charleston residents through the enhancement of these treasured green spaces.”

Charleston Parks Conservancy is excited to offer additional ways that the community can support its parks. The organization has partnered with The Cassina Group and Carolina Rides to raffle a 2024 MOKE America eMoke base model, with a total retail value of more than $25,000.

For raffle tickets, text ‘rafflefortheparks’ to 33100 or purchase online.

  • 1 for $100
  • 3 for $250
  • 6 for $500 and receive a free pair of Rheos Gear Sunglasses (a $65 value)!

The winner of the MOKE America eMoke will be drawn at Party for the Parks on Saturday, November 4, 2023!
