The Eliza Lucas Pinckney Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution Are Revitalizing The Old Exchange Gardens
The Eliza Lucas Pinckney Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) continues to bring new life to the gardens at the Old Exchange and Provost Dungeon. In observance of the DAR National Day of Service, several chapter members dedicated their time on Wednesday, October 11th to weed and perform general maintenance as part of Phase 2, while others dedicated time to serve the community at large.
Phase 1, completed in June, involved clearing out existing plants, soil improvements, planting boxwoods, and mulching the beds. The goal is to create a Georgian garden that will be appropriate for the time period of the building.
“The Old Exchange Building is one of this country’s premiere examples of Georgian-Palladian design, and we want the gardens to be a reflection of this time period too,” said Chapter Regent Andrea Ulmer.
