Curry Royale: an Anglo-Indian Pop-Up Coming to Mt. Pleasant’s Fish & Chippy
On Tuesday, October 24th, the Fish & Chippy (565 Belle Station Blvd. in Mt. Pleasant) will debut its British-style, Indian food pop-up: Curry Royale. Featuring Anglo-Indian curries that have added flavor and depth to British cuisine for centuries, Curry Royale will dish up a rich Chicken Tikka Masala, an almondy Chicken Korma, crispy veggie samosas, and buttery naan, alongside the Fish & Chippy’s normal menu.
Serving authentic British fish and chips and local craft beers, the Fish & Chippy believes it is now the perfect place to experience a traditional British curry house.
In 1858 the British Empire was established in India under the Raj. The culture, food, and flavors were brought back to Queen Victoria and her people in the English Isles in the form of curry houses. With their range of diverse culinary traditions, curry houses rapidly expanded in England and abroad as the Victorians took to the added flavors brought to their otherwise austere lives. Today, curry is the second most popular food in Britain…after fish and chips, of course.
The Fish & Chippy – alongside Curry Royale – is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 am to 8 pm. Curry Royale items can be found on the Fish & Chippy’s menus featured on DoorDash, Uber Eats, Toast, and now also GrubHub.
