Casting Call for a Re-imagined Production of “A Funny Thing Happened On The Way to The Forum”

There is currently a casting call for a re-imagined production of “A Funny Thing Happened On The Way to The Forum” by Stephen Sondheim and book by Burt Shevelove and Larry Gelbart.

The production will be turning the sexual politics of 1962 on its head to celebrate diversity and inclusion through nontraditional casting. They are currently seeking:

  • Actors who sings
  • Non-Union
  • Ages 18+
  • Any ethnicity
  • Any and all genders, conforming and/or non-conforming, drag performers and actors with disabilities are all encouraged to audition.

Auditions will be held on Sunday, November 5th at the College of Charleston. Actors will be asked to prepare 16 bars of a musical theatre song that shows their range along with a short (30 second) comic monologue, story, or original comedy material. You will need to provide sheet music for the accompanist.

Rehearsals will begin in the Summer of 2024 at the Queen Street Playhouse (20 Queen Street).

PERFORMANCE DATES:

  • Friday August 2nd, 7:30 pm
  • Saturday August 3rd, 3 pm and 7:30 pm
  • Sunday August 4th, 3 pm and 7:30 pm
