Press Release

Almost 100 student athletes specializing in six different sports from golf to basketball will pack the D1 Training East Cooper facility on Wednesday, November 1st for the Oceanside Collegiate Academy (OCA) Lift-a-thon event. D1 Training is located at 1220 Ben Sawyer Blvd, Mount Pleasant.

“This is a testament to the dedication and determination of these student-athletes and D1 Training is proud to host this fundraising event,” said D1 Training East Cooper Owner Kristen Virgilio. “The lift-a-thon serves not only as a showcase of athletic prowess but also as a fundraising initiative crucial for the continued development of OCA’s Sports Performance Department.”

D1 Training coaches have worked with many of these student-athletes.

The funds raised through the Lift-a-thon play a pivotal role in ensuring that all OCA student-athletes have access to the safest and most effective training environment. Donations will be allocated towards essential needs such as cleaning supplies, diverse weighted barbells catering to different strength levels, equipment maintenance, repairs, upgrades, and sports performance apparel. These investments are integral to maintaining OCA’s commitment to providing top-tier training resources to its student-athletes.

During the event, OCA’s student-athletes will demonstrate their progress through rigorous assessments. This includes a lower body strength evaluation (Back Squat), an upper body strength assessment (Bench Press), and a lower body power assessment (Vertical Jump). The Lift-a-thon serves as the final max test for these dedicated athletes before embarking on their regular season or pre-season training.

HOW TO GIVE:

Flat Donation: Sponsors can contribute fixed amounts such as $25, $50, or $100 to the Sports Performance Department, irrespective of the weight lifted by the student-athlete.

Per Pound Donation: Sponsors can pledge a specific amount per pound, calculated based on the combined weight lifted (bench press and back squat). Family, friends and supporters are encouraged to watch the lift-a-thon as it spreads out across the D1 facility’s 5,900 square foot facility, complete with 40 yards of turf space. D1 Training East Cooper has a highly trained coaching staff that offers functional fitness as well as sport specific training for ages 7 through adult.
