Tony the Peanut Man
By now you’ve probably heard the sad story involving Anthony Wright. Wright, better known by his nickname Tony the Peanut Man, is well known in the Holy City as the friendly guy who sells boiled peanuts at Charleston Riverdogs games. He brought many smiles to people’s faces as they watched the Riverdogs play. Unfortunately, Tony’s equipment and peanuts were destroyed in a fire at his home Tuesday morning. It was certainly an upsetting piece of news, but unsurprisingly, the Charleston community has rallied around one of its own and created a happy ending.
The Riverdogs announced they will donate proceeds from their peanut sales from April 19-22 to Tony. They will also have donation stations throughout Joe Riley Park.
Piggly Wiggly also stepped up to the plate and offered to replace the 900 pounds of peanuts Tony lost in the fire.
This will give Holy City residents a chance to repay the favor and bring a smile to Tony’s face.
