Judy Shepard, Matthew Shepard’s Mother, To Speak at CofC
Judy Shepard (right), who lost her son Matthew to an anti-gay murder in 1998, will talk about hate crimes, her son’s tragic death and more at the College of Charleston’s Stern Center Ballroom next week. Her lecture, “The Legacy of Matthew Shepard,” will begin at 7 pm on Monday, October 21st.
In many ways Matthew’s death was the genesis of this country’s discussion on hate crimes against LGBTQ people. Judy has continued the conversation by giving lectures throughout the country. She continues to speak out against homophobia and in support of making schools and communities safer for everyone.
The lecture is free and open to the public. Click here for more information about the event.
