RiverDogs Introduce New Manager

The New York Yankees announced that Luis Dorante will be the new manager of the Charleston RiverDogs. Dorante previously served as bullpen coach for the Pittsburgh Pirates from 2008-10 and was most recently the first base coach for the Trenton Thunder, the Yankees’ Double-A affiliate.

Dorante replaces Al Pedrique, who was named manager of the Tampa Yankees.

Other Charleston coaching announcements:

  • First base coach Justin Tordi will return to team in the same role.
  • Former Charleston outfielder Edwar Gonzalez was hired to be the team’s new hitting coach.
  • After a two-season absence, Carlos Chantres returns as the team’s pitching coach.
  • Jimmy Downam is the new trainer.
  • Anthony Velazquez is the new strength and conditioning coach.
  • JR Bassett returns as the clubhouse manager.

The RiverDogs first home game of 2014 will be on Monday, April 7th.
