HBO to Film Danny McBride’s “Vice Principals” in Charleston
After a couple months of speculation, two local news organizations have confirmed that HBO will be filming a new television series in Charleston.
According to Deadline, the new show, Vice Principals, will be a comedy series that “tells the story of a high school and the people who almost run it: the vice principals.” The show was co-created by actor Danny McBride and Jody Hill, who were also the brains behind another popular HBO comedy called Eastbound and Down. McBride will star in the new series.
Rumors regarding the show’s filming location began in November when both McBride and Hill “crashed” The Alley’s “Studio 300” Party. After the shindig, Holy City Sinner was told the duo was in town with some HBO representatives to scout filming locations, but the story could not be confirmed.
Yesterday, ABC News 4’s Jon Bruce tweeted out a link to a North Carolina-based blog that claimed the series was indeed coming to Charleston. Later in the day, both the Post & Courier and Live 5 News were able to confirm the story through a rep at HBO.
Filming times, locations, and the show’s debut date have not been announced yet.
