9th Annual Charleston Duck Race Set for Saturday

The 8th annual Charleston Duck Race for charity will be held on Saturday, June 6th in Daniel Island beginning at 11 am.

The event includes games, jump castles, face painting, music, food vendors, and, of course, the rubber duck race. Charlestonians can “adopt” a duck (or ducks) that will be competing in the race. Around 1:30 pm on race day, over 30,000 rubber ducks will be dropped from the Mark Clark Bridge into the Wando River. From there, the ducks “race” to the Waterfront Park Community Pier in Daniel Island. The first 35 ducks to cross the finish line will win a prize. The first place prize is one of four new cars sponsored by four Charleston-area Hendrick car dealerships.

Proceeds from the duck race are used to fund Rotary community service programs. Over the past seven years the event has raised over $850,000 for local beneficiaries and worldwide Rotary projects.

Other festivities that day include (at the Children’s Park on Daniel Island):

A stand-up paddle board and kayak races from 9 am – 11:30 am
A car show from 10 am until 1 pm
Food and beverages are available for purchase from Daniel Island Grill and several snack vendors.
Plane Jane will perform from 12:30 pm to 4 pm.
Appearances by the Rotary Duck and Cool Ray the Stingrays’ mascot

Although the Charleston Duck Race was started by the Rotary Club of Daniel Island, it has grown to include the Rotary Clubs from Goose Creek, Johns Island, Mt. Pleasant, North Charleston, St. Andrews (West Ashley), and Summerville.
