CSO and the Gaillard Center to Host A Viennese New Year’s Eve Ball
This year, thanks to the recently renovated Gaillard Center, Charleston will have a new way to ring in the New Year. The venue and the Charleston Symphony Orchestra (CSO) will co-host “A Viennese New Year’s Eve Ball” on December 31st from 7:30 pm to 10:30 pm.
The event draws inspiration from Vienna Philharmonic’s internationally-renowned New Year’s Eve performances, which focus on the music of Johann Strauss. The gala will include a “special performance in the Martha & John M. Rivers Performance Hall, followed by an elegant Viennese-style dinner and celebration with dancing in the Grand Ballroom.”
The Orchestra’s performance will include internationally-acclaimed mezzo-soprano MaryAnn McCormick of the Metropolitan Opera. CSO Music Director Ken Lam will conduct the concert, which also features soprano Amanda Hall.
After the performance, guests will meet in the Grand Ballroom for a traditional ball in vintage Viennese style. Guests will be served an Austrian-styled dinner from Duvall Catering. During the meal, the CSO will perform many of Strauss’ most popular waltzes and polkas.
For more information or to purchase tickets to the Ball, visit the CSO box office at 756 St. Andrews Boulevard in Charleston, or call the box office at 843-723-7528, ext. 110.
