Chamber Music Charleston Releases 2016-17 Schedule

EnsembleWInstrumentsTallmedChamber Music Charleston (CMC) has released their 2016-17 schedule, which celebrates their 10th anniversary. Over the last decade, CMC has grown enough to host over 65 concerts each year.

Here’s a look at this season’s schedule, broken up by concert type:

  • Ovation Concert Series: Large scale performances showcasing masterworks from the chamber music repertoire performed by nationally recognized guests and CMC’s local musicians
    • 10/6/16 – Grammy Award-winning violinist Karen Kim at Memminger Auditorium
      • Kim joins CMC musicians for “A Classical Oktoberfest.” Program: Weber Clarinet Quintet in B-Flat Major and Mendelssohn String Quintet no. 2.
    • 1/12/17 – Pianist Andrew Armstrong and Violinists Megan and Alan Molina at Dock Street Theatre
      • Prokofiev’s Overture on Hebrew Themes, Debussy/Schoenberg’s Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun and Brahms Piano Quintet in f Minor.
    • 2/26/17Violinist Jennifer Frautschi and cellist Edward Aaron at Cathedral of St. Luke and St. Paul
      • “A Celebration of Strings.” Program: Back Ricercare a 6 from Musical Offering and Brahms Sextet in G Major, Op. 36.
    • 4/20/17“Prelude to Carnegie” at the Old Exchange Building

      • Program: Elgar Romance for Bassoon and Strings, Shostakovich String Quartet No. 8 and Mozart Flute Quartet in A Major, K. 298.
  • House Concert Series: Intimate performances of chamber music in some of the most distinctive homes in the area. Each hour long performance is followed by a light wine and cheese reception,
    • CMC presents over 25 House Concerts throughout the season.  Please visit chambermusiccharleston.org for the schedule
  • Edisto Island Concert Series at The Presbyterian Church on Edisto
    • 10/9/16: Music for Clarinet and Strings
    • 2/12/17: Music for Winds and Harpsichord
    • 4/23/17: Music for Winds and Strings
  • Classical Kids Concert Series: 45-minute programs of music designed specifically for younger audiences.  Each program opens with an educational introduction to the musicians and their instruments followed by a selection of sing-along songs.  The program concludes with a beloved children’s story coming to life through narration, music and art.
    • 12/17/16: The Night Before Christmas for Wind Quintet at Sottile Theatre
    • 3/18/17: Mercedes and the Chocolate Pilot for String Quartet at Charleston Museum
  • Special Events
    • 9/24/16: Little Mozart Circus (Free) in Marion Square

Advance purchase for House Concerts is required (as they frequently sell out by September) and strongly encouraged for performances of the Ovation series (as prime seats sell quickly).
