Restaurant Group Scarecrow & Co. To Open on Ann Street
Former New York Chef Damon Wise and his business partner, Jonathan Buckley, recently announced that they will open a grouping of three restaurants this spring in downtown Charleston. The project, called Scarecrow & Co., will be housed in a former 1850’s train depot at 23 Ann Street.
The building, which features beamed ceilings and antique brick interiors, will soon be home to three distinct concepts – Scarecrow, Feathertop, and Wise-Buck Smoked Meats.
A press release from the company described each of the reestaurants as follows:
Scarecrow
“Scarecrow showcases a sophisticated, vegetable-driven menu complimented by a masterfully curated wine list. Built around a custom wood-fired grill and oven, Scarecrow allows guests a front row view as Chef Wise and his team prepare dishes featuring the Lowcountry’s bounty cooked over oak with accents of fruitwood. The restaurant features an impressive reserve wine cellar and an outdoor wine garden.”
Feathertop
“A bright and laidback eatery situated next to Scarecrow, Feathertop is named after a playful tale of a scarecrow come to life, written by Nathaniel Hawthorne in 1852. The menu offers lighter fare like fresh, local fish, housemade pastas, and seasonal vegetables, paired with craft cocktails and a diverse collection of wines, all priced under $65. The restaurant also boasts an all-day coffee/wine bar with a casual outdoor area and pick-up window for libations and coffee.”
Wise-Buck Smoke Meats
“The group’s most casual and relaxed concept, Wise-Buck Smoked Meats offers inventive slow-cooked meat dishes, market-driven sides and a canned wine and beer program in a lively atmosphere. Guests can dig into their smoked meats in the colorful dining room or on Wise Buck’s expansive outdoor patio where they can refresh their beverages through the bar take-out window.”
Wise-Buck will be the first entity to debut with an estimated opening in early May.
