The Aquarium’s Last Public Sea Turtle Release of 2016 is TODAY
The South Carolina Aquarium’s Sea Turtle Rescue Program will hold its last public release of 2016 TODAY at Folly Beach County Park. The event starts at 2:30 pm.
As usual, anyone can attend the event. Although viewing the sea turtle release is free, attendees should plan to pay for parking.
This time around, three different sea turtles will be returned to the ocean. Here’s a look at each (click on their names to learn more):
- Oyster
- Juvenile Kemp’s ridley sea turtle
- Accidentally caught by a fisherman near the Old Oyster Factory in Hilton Head Island

- Serp (pictured on the right)
- Juvenile Kemp’s ridley sea turtle
- Accidentally caught by a fisherman on Edisto Beach
- Had to have two hooks removed from the turtle’s esophagus

- Ray
- Juvenile loggerhead sea turtle
- Brought to the Aquarium in May after being stung by a stingray in the Charleston Harbor
