Charleston to Host James Beard Foundation’s 3rd Annual Taste America Tour
The James Beard Foundation’s latest “Taste America” national culinary tour will stop in the Holy City for two days next month. Charleston is one of ten American cities that will receive a visit.
Things kick off on Friday, November 4th at The Cedar Room inside The Cigar Factory with “A Night of Culinary Stars,” an exclusive dining event benefiting the James Beard Foundation.
The evening will begin with a reception filled with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres from local chefs and restaurateurs like:
- Jeremiah Bacon (The Macintosh)
- Jill Mathias (Chez Nous)
- Kevin Mitchell (Culinary Institute of Charleston)
- Ken Vedrinski (Trattoria Lucca)
- Michelle Weaver (Charleston Grill)
Afterwards, guests will be seated for a multi-course dinner prepared by James Beard Award-winning chef and Taste America All-Star Dan Barber (Blue Hill at Stone Barns, Pocantico Hills, NY) and James Beard Award-winning chef Sean Brock (Husk).
According a release, the evening’s menu will be devoted to the theme of food waste and reuse as chef Barber is passionate about a new way of eating for the future – one that incorporates underutilized crops and cuts of meat in order to support the long-term health of the land. The dinner will celebrate what chefs do every day in their kitchens (and what peasant cooking has done for thousands of years) – creating something delicious out of the ignored or uncoveted and inspiring new applications for the overlooked byproducts of our food system.
Multiple culinary events will be held the next day (11/5) at Le Creuset. For more information on the entire weekend, visit http://www.jbftasteamerica.org/event/charleston .
