Letter from Nick’s Original BBQ’s Owners

Published

on

As you probably heard, Nick’s Original BBQ at 288 King Street was forced to close its doors on Tuesday, April 11th. Owners Nick Pihakis and John Haire released the following letter to their patrons about the situation:

Hey y’all. We have some good news, and we have some bad news.

The King Street building housing our restaurant has stood tall for almost 200 years, surviving earthquakes, fires and hurricanes, all the while providing a rock-solid presence in our beautiful city. Today, however, we received the devastating news that she (our building) is in a bad way and requires immediate attention and substantial repairs.

The bad news is that we’ve served our last BBQ Pork Sandwich, Pig in the Potato Patch, and Cheese Biscuit for a while on King Street. We’ve put the fire out in our BBQ smokers and are stepping aside to allow the construction folks to make their repairs to the beautiful building we’ve called home for the past 12 years.

We are forever grateful for our wonderful and talented BBQ family members who have worked hard day in and day out serving our loyal and regular guests on King Street. NEVER have we had the pleasure to be associated with such a fine group of people who have worked so hard and are so loyal to each other and to this business.

The good news is that we are working hard to relocate our business downtown (like wheels in motion, fast and furious). BBQ is a slow process, but we are hoping our search for a new spot won’t be. In the meantime, we are serving up our BBQ in North Charleston (4964 Centre Pointe Dr.) and next month we’ll open another location in Mt. Pleasant (1486 Stuart Engals Blvd). We are thankful to be able to extend opportunities at these locations to our King Street employees so not one of them will miss an opportunity to work and earn money. Our catering will continue out of our kitchen in North Charleston as usual.

Please know that while this news was delivered to us as a quick blow, we are blessed with the finest team that knows just how to make a plan and make it work. We are committed to finding a new opportunity to serve y’all. Please check our Facebook page for regular updates or contact us directly at (843) 619-0070 with any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Nick Pihakis & John Haire
