Carolina Youth Action Project to Host Launch Party/Fundraiser
On Saturday, May 20th, The Carolina Youth Action Project (CYAP), formerly Girls Rock Charleston, will host “Free & Whole Together,” a fundraising event at Redux Contemporary Art Center’s new King Street location.
Girls Rock Charleston launched in 2011 as a week-long music camp for girls and transgender youth. The organization says their name change will reflect their new work. CYAP says they will:
- continue to lift the voices of girls, transgender, and gender non-conforming youth by providing high-quality art, music, and political education programs
- train young feminist and anti-racist organizers
- build power to confront the forces of racism, transphobia, homophobia, and sexism in South Carolina by resourcing and centering the leadership of girls and trans youth of color
This fundraising event will feature live music from Southern Femisphere, Contour, Infinitikiss, Benjamin Starr, and Melon In. There was also be an ice cream sundae bar, a silent auction, karaoke, and more.
The event will run from 6 pm to 10 pm. Admission is a donation of $20 or more at the door. Youth 17 and under get in free. More details can be found here.
The Redux Contemporary Art Center is now located at 1056 King Street.
