Virgil Kaine Lowcountry Whiskey Co. recently received gold and silver medals from the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, one of the most influential events in the industry.

The distillery’s Ashcat Blended Bourbon Whiskey earned the top honor in the Special Barrel-Finished Bourbon category. The gold medal is given to “exceptional spirits that are near the pinnacle of achievement and set the standard for its category.”

The Charleston-based company also took home a silver medal in the design competition for packaging.

Another Holy City business also earned two awards at the competition. Charleston Distilling took home a Silver Medal in the Flavored Gin category for their Jasper’s Bourbon Barrel Gin and a bronze in the Rye Whiskey group for their Calhoun’s Single Barrel Straight Rye Whiskey.

This year’s competition had over 2,500 entries. More information on the competition, and the results, can be found here: http://sfspiritscomp.com/results/browse.
