Charleston Symphony Orchestra Opens Single Ticket Sales for 2017-18 Season
The Charleston Symphony Orchestra (CSO) recently announced that single tickets for the 2017-18 season are now available. The season features special guest musicians and new collaborations, including artist-in-residence Sandra Wright Shen, and a new home for the Chamber Music Series.
“The 2017-18 season was developed with a focus on celebration,” said Ken Lam, CSO’s Music Director. “From classics like Ode to Joy to performances that pay homage to musical greats, the CSO aims to celebrate orchestral music, our patrons, and life itself.”
The new season includes Masterworks performances at the Gaillard Center ranging from Bach to Bernstein. In honor of Leonard Bernstein’s 100th birthday, the CSO will perform both a Masterworks and a Pops concert dedicated to the great conductor/composer. Other highlights include Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony with the CSO Chorus, Brahms’ Symphony No. 2, and patrons will be treated to special performances by pianist and artist-in-residence Sandra Wright Shen, who will also teach master classes to local students.
Pops conductor Yuriy Bekker has programmed an imaginative line-up of orchestral popular music including hits from Indiana Jones, Star Wars, Harry Potter, and Superman in celebration of John Williams’ 85th birthday, “Celebrate L’Italia!” with delightful performances of both old and new Italian music, the CSO’s annual family-favorite Holiday Pops concert in December. Patrons will feast on the music of Gershwin and Bernstein featuring “Rhapsody in Blue” and West Side Story, followed by a New York-themed gala fundraiser sponsored by the Charleston Symphony Orchestra League in January.
Ken Lam will host the three Chamber Music performances at the Dock Street Theatre this season. The series includes Schubert’s ever-popular Trout Quintet, wind ensemble selections by Dvořák and Brahms, and strings and oboe music from Britten and Elgar.
Special events include our annual Holy City Messiah performances with the CSO Chorus, the return after last year’s sellout of the Canadian Brass with the CSO Brass for a holiday concert, and a dramatic performance of Carmina Burana with the orchestra, the CSO Chorus and Charleston Children’s Chorus, guest vocalists, and the Nashville Ballet co-presented by the Gaillard Center.
To purchase tickets for any of the CSO’s concerts, visit CharlestonSymphony.org, call the CSO box office at 843-723-7528 x110, or in person at 2133 N. Hillside Drive, Charleston, SC 29407 between 9:00am and 5:00pm Monday through Thursday and 9:00am and 12:00pm on Friday.
