Personal finance website WalletHub recently released its report on 2017’s Fattest States in America, which determined that South Carolina is the country’s 9th fattest state. Mississippi topped the list, while Massachusetts was named the least fat state in the country.

To determine which states contribute the most to America’s overweight and obesity problem, WalletHub’s analysts compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia across 19 key metrics. They range from share of overweight and obese population to sugary-beverage consumption among adolescents to obesity-related health care costs.

Here is where the Palmetto State ranked in some of these categories:

Obesity & Overweight Problem in South Carolina (1=Fattest; 25=Avg.)

  • 13th – % of Obese Adults
  • 28th – % of Overweight Children
  • 12th – % of Obese Children
  • 21st – % of Physically Inactive Adults
  • 11th – % of Adults with High Cholesterol
  • 7th – % of Adults Eating Less than 1 Serving of Fruits/Vegetables per Day
  • 6th – % of Adults with Type 2 Diabetes
  • 9th – % of Adults with Hypertension
