PURE Theatre kicks off the New Year with “Fun Home: The Musical”

Friday, January 19th, 2018, marks the opening night of Fun Home: The Musical, the third and long-anticipated production of Season 15 at PURE Theatre. Based on the graphic novel by Alison Bechdel, Fun Home is a coming-of-age story following graphic-novelist Alison as she, following the unexpected death of her father, dives deep into her past to tell the story of the volatile, brilliant, one-of- a-kind man whose temperament and secrets defined her family and her life.

Moving between past and present, Alison relives her unique childhood playing at the family’s Bechdel Funeral Home, her growing understanding of her own sexuality, and the looming, unanswerable questions about her father’s hidden desires. Fun Home is a refreshingly honest, wholly original musical about seeing your parents through grown-up eyes.

Fun Home opens Friday, January 19th, 2018, and runs through Saturday, February 10th, 2018. Regular performance times are Thursday through Saturday at 7:30pm with an added matinee performance at 3:00pm on Saturday, February 3rd, 2018. PURE will offer Pay-What- You-Will performances on Thursday, January 18th and Wednesday, January 24th. The Halsey Post-Show Talkback is Thursday, January 25th at 7:30 pm. Members of the Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art and friends of the College of Charleston School of the Arts receive 20% off their tickets on Halsey Talkback Night.
