Germain Dermatology has announced their second office location in Summerville (602. N. Main Street) will open in March 2018. To celebrate this new location, Germain Dermatology will be offering new patients free skin cancer screenings on March 2nd, 14th, and 28th from 8:30 am to 3 pm.

Appointments are available by calling (843) 881-4440. Walk-ins are also welcome. Germain Dermatology’s board-certified dermatologists and dermatology physician assistants will be available to answer your questions, check for irregularities, discuss how often you should examine your skin, and what to do if you notice anything suspicious.

If you have noticed a slow-growing bump, a changing mole or a dry and rough scaly patch, it should be seen by a dermatologist. When skin cancer is treated in its early stages, most skin cancers can be treated and cured. Basal and squamous cell skin cancers are the most common and are found mainly on the parts of the body that are most exposed to the sun.

Melanoma can occur anywhere on the body but more commonly start in certain locations. Melanoma is not as common as Basal and squamous cell skin cancers, but can be far more serious. If left untreated, it is much more likely to spread to other parts of the body where it can become difficult to treat. Germain Dermatology offers Mohs micrographic surgery with Dr. Joseph McGowan. Mohs – as it’s referred – is considered the most effective technique for treating many basal cell carcinomas (BCCs) and squamous cell carcinomas (SCCs), the two most common types of skin cancer. The procedure is done in stages, including lab work, while the patient waits. This allows the removal of all cancerous cells for the highest cure rate while sparing healthy tissue and leaving the smallest possible scar.

The new Summerville office will also offer cosmetic dermatology procedures and treatments like Botox, dermal fillers, Germain Rx Skincare Products and more. To schedule an appointment call (843) 881-4440.
