Construction Begins at New Waterfront Community
Construction has begun for Kiawah River, a new community on Johns Island that combines residential, hospitality and retail offerings with an array of engaging amenities in a natural riverside setting. Initial homes are slated for completion in late 2018.
“Kiawah River offers the rare opportunity to live in a vibrant, new waterfront community near historic Charleston,” said Carter Redd, managing director of Kiawah River. “Residents and visitors here can embrace the Lowcountry with a life centered on the outdoors.”
Located a short drive from historic Charleston and just minutes from neighboring Freshfields Village and Bohicket Marina, Kiawah River is an intimate retreat situated on 2,000 acres encompassing 20 miles of shoreline across from Kiawah Island with an extensive trail network. The new waterfront community will feature custom and semi-custom homes designed by the region’s leading architects and thoughtfully placed within distinct villages with waterfront and maritime forest views.
Planned amenities include a roadside farm stand and market, a chapel and events hall, a lodge, swim and fitness club, dining options and an outdoor learning center. Natural amenities include a trail network through a maritime forest, abundant green space and 100 acres of working farmland to foster a farm-to-table lifestyle. The community will also have several launch points for fishing and exploring the pristine Kiawah River and inland waterways.
“Kiawah River will be unlike any other community in the Southeast,” said Redd. “It will serve as a new home to celebrate traditional pastimes with friends and family in a riverfront setting that feels secluded yet just a short drive from Charleston.”
The Kiawah River design team includes globally recognized land planners, engineers, architects and builders that specialize in creating a sense of community by emphasizing public spaces. Creative collaborators include farmers, artists, wellness experts, fishing guides, historians, naturalists and chefs.
Kiawah River will continue a two-decade tradition of stewardship of the land and water through its sustainability commitment that encompasses an active land and wildlife management program, smart building practices and community partnerships that address Johns Island priorities of quality education, health and environmental protection.
