AFFA to Host “Trans Talk: Uncensored” to Enlighten People to the Transgender Experience
Alliance For Full Acceptance (AFFA) is hosting “Trans Talk: Uncensored,” a special event at Commonhouse Aleworks in Park Circle on Sunday, April 29th at 6:30pm. The event will feature five members of the local transgender community talking about the trans experience.
Are you curious about what it’s like to be transgender? Do you have questions you’ve been afraid to ask? At this event, you can ask questions like: When did you know you were trans? How did you choose your name? How do I know what pronoun to use for someone? What does being trans mean for your sex life? A group of local transgender folks will answer your questions in a laid back, conversational space. No questions are off limits (although our community members will let you know if it’s a question that wouldn’t be appropriate to ask other trans folks in the future). We’ll have questions to kick things off and then we’ll do Q&A session with the audience.
AFFA executive director Chase Glenn said, “AFFA believes that knowledge is power and creating understanding around the trans experience is key in our fight for justice for the transgender community. When people are given the opportunity to meet a trans person, ask questions they’ve had about what it’s like to identify as trans or gender-nonconforming, and learn about the trans experience, they’ll hopefully walk away from this event being an ally for the transgender community. In a time when violence against the trans community is at an all-time high, our allies are more important than ever.”
