Friday Night Boogie Series Kicks Off on May 11th
The Mount Pleasant Pier’s Friday evening event series returns in May. Ages 21 and up are invited to do some shag dancing on the pier at Friday Night Boogie, starting on May 11th.
The Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission’s (CCPRC) counterpart to the summertime Shaggin’ on the Cooper events (open to all ages on select Saturday nights), Friday Night Boogie is intended for adults ages 21 and up. Friday Night Boogie will be held on May 11th, June 8th and July 13th. Each event will begin at 7 pm.
The Mount Pleasant Pier will be groovin’ with the sounds of DJ Jim Bowers spinning a variety of unforgettable oldies, beach music classics, and line dancing hits. Best of all, the event is held at the end of the 1250-foot-long pier next to Memorial Waterfront Park, the perfect spot to catch cool breezes, beautiful scenery, and views of Charleston Harbor and the Ravenel Bridge.
Beverages will be available for purchase on the pier during Friday Night Boogie, and food will be available for sale in the Mount Pleasant Pier’s River Watch Cafe (not included in ticket price). Gates open at 7 pm and music will continue until 11 pm.
Admission to Friday Night Boogie is $10. Advance tickets are available at a discounted rate of $8 at CharlestonCountyParks.com. All attendees must be 21 years of age to gain entry, and a photo ID is required. In case of rain, ticket receipts will be good for any future Friday Night Boogie event. Tickets may be purchased in advance at CharlestonCountyParks.com or by calling 843-795-4386.
Friday Night Boogie is one of several summertime pier dance series offered by CCPRC. Other similar events include the Shaggin’ on the Cooper series, also held at the Mount Pleasant Pier, on Saturdays, April 28, May 12, June 9, July 14, Aug. 11 and Sept. 8. On the other end of Charleston County, CCPRC’s Folly Beach Pier hosts a Friday night Moonlight Mixer series on May 25, June 15, July 6, Aug. 17 and Sept. 14. All three event series feature music and shag dancing on the piers.
