Katie’s Krops Hosts Ultimate Barn Bash Fundraiser in June

Published

on

Katie’s Krops will host the first Katie’s Krops Ultimate Barn Bash on Friday, June 8th at the Barn at Summers Corner.

In 2008, Katie Stagliano of Summerville grew a 40-pound-cabbage in her backyard and donated it to Tri-County Family Ministries where it helped to feed 275 people. Shortly thereafter, Stagliano started Katie’s Krops to empower other children across the country to grow vegetable gardens and donate their harvest to feed people in need. Stagliano is currently a student at the College of Charleston.

In 2017, Katie’s Krops growers donated over 39,000 pounds of fresh produce to food pantries, homeless shelters, backpack programs, cancer centers and directly to families in need. There are currently Katie’s Krops gardens growing coast to coast with twelve gardens now growing in the Lowcountry alone.

In addition to the gardens, Katie’s Krops host monthly free garden-to-table dinners using the harvest from the gardens. The dinners are prepared and served by youth volunteers who work in the gardens growing the food that is served. In 2017, the youth volunteers served 2668 meals and dedicated 600+ hours to prepare the dinners.

The Ultimate Barn Bash to keep Katie’s Krops growing will be a family-friendly event that will include live music by Mojo McGee; a barbecue dinner;desserts courtesy of Trolley Dolly Treats and Holy City Cupcakes; a s’more fire pit; and yard games for all ages. There will also be an auction filled with wonderful items for all ages.
