Press Release

Slow Food Charleston Board of Directors is seeking applicants for multiple positions. The volunteer led and run organization meets monthly and board members are expected to attend the majority of meetings, currently held on Monday evenings, and are asked to support events and programming initiatives through committee involvement and attendance. APPLICATION PERIOD ENDS FRIDAY, JUNE 29, 2018. Apply here.

Chapter History: Slow Food Charleston is a volunteer-run chapter of Slow Food USA, which was founded locally in 2004 and has since advocated for food literacy and worked to advance the international mission of Good, Clean, and Fair food for all. We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that operates a year-round calendar of events and initiatives that includes potlucks, the annual Snail Awards, the SnailBlazer Grant program, a unique Tiny Tastemakers youth initiative, Slow Sips educational socials, and multiple efforts surrounding the Ark of Taste, which is Slow Food’s catalogue of historically and culturally significant ingredients that are facing extinction. 2018 Needs – The Board is particularly looking for new members to lead in the following areas:

• Event Director: to plan, design and produce events for Slow Food Charleston, while managing project delivery elements within time limits. Responsibilities include committee creation, working with other board members to help them in achieving their program goals, and conduct pre and post–event evaluations and report on outcomes. Event Director will be responsible for two ticketed events each year, which is currently the Snail Awards and the Ark of Taste Dinner.

• Bookkeeper/Administrator: is responsible for performing a variety of financial and administrative duties.  This is a leadership position on the Board and will require record keeping, account management, and working closely with the Director on operations. Experience working in the nonprofit setting is preferred, demonstrated professionalism and tact in communications with a diversity of individuals, strong organizational and time management skills, acute attention to detail and ability to work well with the Slow Food Charleston leadership team are musts!

• Chef Coordinator: will manage relationships and act as point person in chef communications for events. This individual will grow and manage a list of contacts in the restaurant community and work with restaurants and their staffs in educational training on subjects of Slow Food. Facilitating the implementation of the Slow Food USA Chefs Alliance campaign a priority.

While other skills are always welcome, these are our most pressing needs at this time! We always need good project managers who can see all kinds of projects through from start to finish. Please be mindful of these interests while filling out your application and emphasize specific experience in these areas as much as possible.
