Itinerant Literate, Harold’s Cabin Co-host “Food For Thought” with Local Activist Tamika Gadsden
On Saturday, June 16th, at 5 pm, Itinerant Literate, in partnership with Harold’s Cabin, will present a new event series called “Food for Thought: A Conversation and Book Signing.” The event will take place in the upstairs dining room at Harold’s.
Each purchase of the book from Itinerant Literate will come with an event ticket. For those who already own a copy, tickets are available through Eventbrite.
Complimentary hors d’oeuvres will be offered during an opening reception at 4:30 pm, and Harold’s Cabin will have a specialty cocktail exclusive to the event available for purchase.
The event will feature award-winning historians and former Charleston residents Blaine Roberts and Ethan J. Kytle discussing their acclaimed history, Denmark Vesey’s Garden: Slavery and Memory in the Cradle of the Confederacy, published in April. Local activist and host of the “Mic’d Up” podcast Tamika Gadsden will interview the authors and moderate a question-and-answer segment. Both authors will be available to sign copies of the book following the interview.
The first major work to interrogate competing memories of slavery and the Civil War from emancipation to the present, Denmark Vesey’s Garden offers a deft examination of Charleston’s history of and relationship to slavery, race, and memory.
Tickets can be purchased here.
Harold’s Cabin is located at 247 Congress Street.
