Live 5, WCSC Announces Launch of Lowcountry Weekend
Press Release
–
Live 5, WCSC, the Raycom Media-owned CBS affiliate, announced the launch of a new videocentric local website, Lowcountry Weekend. Lowcountryweekend.com will help not only Charleston-area users, but people worldwide who are planning a visit or vacation to the Lowcountry. Users will be able to navigate all the incredible food, activities, events and fun to be had here locally. The site will be another trusted digital content platform from Live 5, WCSC, the Lowcountry’s News Leader.
“This new digital property will be an exciting addition to the Live 5 family,” said Dan Cates, Vice President and General Manager of WCSC. “Our goal is to showcase all of the positive lifestyle aspects of the entire Charleston area. We are all proud and passionate about where we live, and Lowcountry Weekend will give us that opportunity to really share and celebrate our community.”
An important partner in this new effort is Explore Charleston and Charleston Locals. They’ve recently launched CHSLocals.com focused on increasing area resident’s awareness of local businesses, increased direct fly markets and strategies to most effectively be a host or visitor in the Charleston area. A collaborative feature during Live 5 News at 7:30, presented weekly by Lowcountry Weekend’s Vagney Bradley, will help area residents plan their weekends with everything to see and do in the Charleston area.
“We want to connect with our residents, particularly those new to the area,” said Helen Hill, chief executive officer, Explore Charleston. “Our goal is to showcase our amazing local attractions, dynamic food scene and exceptional air service that all work to make Charleston the No. 1 City in the U.S. We believe that Lowcountry Weekend will be an excellent platform to get our locals excited about being a visitor in their own town!”
The Lowcountry Weekend launch comes the week after the readers of Travel + Leisure magazine voted Charleston the No. 1 City in the U.S. for the sixth consecutive year! In addition, Charleston was voted the No. 10 City in the Top 15 Cities in the World being the only domestic city to make the list. Lowcountry Weekend will help bring these stories home locally with the sights, sounds and flavors that make Charleston uniquely special.
Lowcountry Weekend is an extension of Raycom’s successful regional effort, the Southern Weekend. Other Raycom stations including Columbia and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; and Savannah, Georgia will also feature similar websites, creating an exciting area network of nearby places to see and experience.
