Published

on

The Parklands Foundation, the non-profit partner of the Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission (CCPRC), will host a sunset cruise in Charleston Harbor on Thursday, September 30th in an effort to raise funds for its projects.

Boarding will begin in Shem Creek starting at 4:30 pm with a cruise aboard the Palmetto Breeze taking place from 5 pm to 7 pm. Tickets are $50 per person, which includes beer, wine, and hors d’oeurves. The event is for ages 21 and up only. Tickets for the sunset cruise are available at TheParklandsFoundation.org.

The vision of The Parklands Foundation of Charleston County is to identify, develop, and sustain projects that actively encourage people to experience CCPRC’s facilities, programs, and services for the benefit of living a healthier and safer lifestyle. One of the foundation’s most well-known initiatives is The Genesis Project, which is currently raising funds to support swimming instruction at a future pool undergoing construction in Hollywood, SC.

The Genesis Project was established in memory of Genesis Holmes, a 13-year-old Hollywood boy who drowned tragically in May 2014. The project’s name not only honors the life of Genesis and all others who have died in this heartbreaking way, but represents the foundation’s efforts to eliminate drowning occurrences in the rural areas of Charleston County by creating access to lifeguarded pools and swimming lessons.
